Pay back any damages done to customer homes or if equipment doesn’t work correctly and the contracting company has to send someone else out to “fix your mistakes” even though they weren’t my mistakes in the first place.
Paid by each piece of equipment installed (no guarantee on the amount each day)
Money is decent If you stick around and hopefully avoid downtime.
No benefits.
- end rant
I had to give back most of the tools because I had not “accrued enough to pay them all off.” I also had to pay for “jobs not finished” (for whatever reason, my fault or not) that I knew nothing about because this company did not inform me about these jobs back in August. This was all in mid October.
Several months go by and everything is going okay, I get a call one day saying, jobs are slowing down and they are pulling my personal route. Jobs weren’t slowing down for other cable companies, why just mine? I never received information on if I was sucking at my job, that would of shed some light on all the issues. Once again I felt lost and lack of communication from this company had me sitting around twiddling my fingers for a few weeks before someone had some answers about my employment. Basically I was given an ultimatum about either moving or quitting. I gladly quit because leaving my family and home for 95% of the month is definitely not worth it.
Soap box story of my time with this company below.
A few days before my training was completed, I got a call from a SV saying I would have to travel 3 hours away to continue working, which I promptly said no, I was hired to stay local. So I argued with them over that aspect. I just felt lost and left out from this company on what to do. Days later I got a call confirming I was staying local. When I finally got on my own, I discovered how bad of a company this is. If I got stuck at a job because there were situations I had never been trained for, or if pieces of equipment didn’t work right for whatever reason, I was stuck waiting on the phone for anywhere from 30 minutes - hours and hours. Thus making my weekly check go down.
Have to pay back the tools company buys you (10% of each check).
You get a decent tool collection started.
When I first started, everything was cool, I felt generally cared about as I went through my 6 weeks of on the job training. Compensation wasn’t bad during that time ($10/hr), but there are lots of situations with cable installation that just were not covered or never came up during training.
When I was filling out applications for all sorts of jobs, this company called me out of nowhere. Not uncommon, just strange they would want someone with little to no experience starting out for them. They hired me to be a LOCAL employee, which means never leave the town I live in.
Have to build a “retention fund” (10% of each check).
Lack of communication from management about stability and the job in general.
I do not recommend this company to anyone looking for a cable installation position. They don’t care about their employees. Just getting the jobs done.
Cons - Long hours with no stability or routine.
Pros - On your own a lot and self pace cable/internet installation jobs.
